Powerful Music

Ivy: Daddy, the first song on that mix you made me, it sorta...umm...makes me feel a certain way.

Me: Oh yeah, how does it make you feel?

Ivy: Well, it's hard to explain. Sort of like as if the world needed saving, and that I might be the one who could do it. It makes me feel super confident.

Wow - Jer! That is impressive - kids can say the most amazing things but that "Ivy-ism" was just profound! Makes me wonder what the song was?

My oldest daughter Chelsea has a notebook full of some of her sayings that we've captured...I can't think of an apt one right now but needless to say - makes a papa proud!

I too would like to know what song inspires a 5 year-old to save the world! Go, Ivy, go!

It was this song: Adiemus (mp3) from a musical project of the same name. In the version we have, it was incorrectly attributed to Enya as part of the Lord of the Rings soundtracks, but it apparently has nothing to do with her or the movies.

It does have an inspirational sound, but I was most stoked by Ivy's ability to articulate the feelings the music evoked -- her face was shining as she said it, with eyes sparkling, almost shy, but radiant at the same time.

Part of the reason Ivy's been so into music this week is that she decided to stop sucking her thumb a while back, going pretty much cold turkey on her own, so we rewarded this milestone with a present -- a very pink, princess-themed stereo with lots of hidden compartments for pretty things. The other night Tannis and I were testing it out and we thought it sounded great: http://eyespot.com/blogs/headspacej?postId=5161.
