By ol' Thoreau's standard, my expenses for pleasures of the past year mark me as a poor man. So be it.

Still, cheaper than a motorcycle, sports car, new wardrobe... or many of the other things some people consume to amuse themselves.

True enough. They're all tools for doing things I love too; creative, healthy, environment-friendly things...unlike clothes, home entertainment, motorsports, home renos or whatever.

I see his point, too -- keeping costs down is one way to ensure that you don't spend all your time working to pay for all your stuff...as we've discussed in depth over the past 15 years.
